Anxiety and stress can have a negative impact on people's everyday lives, their careers, personal and home lives. An individual might go to extremes of avoiding different situations in order to prevent any build up of anxiety, which can be a severe hindrance. Chronic anxiety has the potential to completely shut down the world as we know it.
Everything and nothing at the same time... its origin can be numerous including negative emotions experienced during youth - such as shame and fear. In fairness, these were probably necessary for survival early-on when family dependency is high and capacity for change is low. By adulthood though, these scripts become outdated and without review, can sabotage efforts at a meaningful existence.
As an example, children heavily punished for 'talking back' may develop a lifelong fear about speaking up and asserting themselves… this can lead to a tolerance of harmful relationships, or the physical manifestation of speech impediments.
"..Anxiety is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained." - Arthur Somers ROCHE
